Welcome to the Study-Hall Scholars
Joining the 8th Grade TEACH Academy of Technologies team was a natural calling for me as it was an opportunity to grow, learn, and collaborate as an educator as well as to be a part of a team that truly cares about educating our future leaders of the world. I anticipate meeting all of my students to show them how learning can be fun and exciting!
A little about myself.....
I was born on the otherside of the world in a very small village in Lebanon, the panarama picture above is my actual hometown. I moved to the U.S. when I was about 5 years old to the city of Los Angeles in 1999. I know both Arabic and English. English was my second language and was a bit difficult for me to learn because of my mother's tongue. I was placed in ESL/ELD learning classes throughout most of my high school and actually failed the English section of the CAHSEE (California High School Exit Exam) twice--you needed this exam to graduate highschool back when I was a student. However, through hardwork and dedication, I finally passed on the 3rd try. Now I am an English teacher, oh the irony! I went to University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) for my Bachelor's Degree in English Literature and Languages. I then completed my Master's Degree in Education along with a teaching credential at University of California Riverside (UCR). I hope to complete my PhD soon!
Why did Mr. Youssef become an English teacher?
I became a teacher because I want to give all the opportunities that I did not have throughout my education. By the time I hit 10th grade, I had to drop out of regular high school and attend what is known as a continuation highschool because I fell so far behind my friends and peers. My grades slipped and I didn't really care for school, but this one English teacher did not give up on me. He inspired me to continue and to keep trying over and over again. He gave me the opportunities, lessons, and support I needed to graduate--and so, the time has come to pay it forward to future scholars such as yourselves because I truly care about you and your education. I would not be here if it was not for that teacher in my life.
Things I enjoy doing as my hobbies:
I love to read mystery/detective novels. (Under construction)
